Testing your trailer lights has been notably difficult in the past. This is because it requires the presence of two people to ensure all lights are operating right. It’s not something that you can avoid either, as having working lights is a legal requirement.
To make testing your lights easy, we have developed our Towmate® Electrical Tester (sku: 26.4011). This product is unique to ATE and has been developed by our in-house R&D team. Housed in a square box, the tester is completely portable with a built-in battery, charger and adapter. Equipped with automatic shut-off to ensure no battery wastage, it can check all of your trailer lights, including reverse. If there’s a problem with a light, it will stop on the one that isn’t working – to let you know there’s a problem. It works with both 7 and 13-Pin equipment. It’s lithium-ion battery lasts eight hours running time and when charged overnight, can then be used again the following day.
So how does it work?
Perhaps the best thing about this electrical tester is that it operates with one touch. This means you can set it to run and there will be a short delay that allows you to get in position to start checking your lights, avoiding the need for two people. Once on, it runs through the entire sequence of lights, checking for any faults. It has a re-settable fuse, so if there is an earthing fault, you don’t have to keep replacing the fuse, only simply push and reset the fuse and start again. It also includes a battery monitor on the tester which allows you to keep an eye on the condition of the battery, and whether or not it needs recharging.
